Starting Something New (But Not Really New)
This is hard work, folks! I’m stepping into something new—but not entirely unfamiliar. Anyone who has walked through different stages of entrepreneurship will know the mix of rewards and hardships that come with it. My learning edges have been tested, that’s for sure!
What isn’t new is supervision. This is a space I’ve always loved. As a SENCO and senior leader, I thrived in it. And now, in the UK, it’s beginning to take its rightful place in education.
Educators—teachers and leaders—carry so many invisible demands. Processing these pressures is almost impossible with the constant time constraints, lack of availability, and limited access to support. That’s where supervision comes in.
I’ll be sharing my own journey: the experience of being supervised (and continuing to receive supervision), alongside my work supervising others and collaborating with fellow supervisors. What you’ll find here will be honest and real—sometimes raw—but always compassionate and respectful. I hope that what I write resonates with your own experiences, sparks discussion, and lays the foundation for a community of practice that nurtures both professional growth and wellbeing.
At the heart of this is a simple truth: we all love this job. But to keep loving it, and to do it well, we need to be well ourselves. Balance and wellness aren’t luxuries—they’re essential. There are many ways we can move toward that, and for me, supervision is one of the most powerful.
So, here I am, offering the gift of supervision. I hope to see you soon—for a chat, for reflection, and maybe for building something bigger together.
